The Alchemist's Wedding Band

Ring. 3.75 h x 2.75 x 1.25," lead, copper, 12K gold

This piece references the premises of alchemy to describe the practice of combining lives when a couple makes a lifetime commitment to one another. In the middle ages, alchemists sought a process that would turn base metals such as lead into precious metals such as gold. The copper equipage in this piece directly references those forms pictured in alchemical texts. In the experience of finding one’s life partner, both individuals (which are represented by lead houses in this piece) come together to form something that is more precious (symbolized by the emerging wedding band).
