post-consumer recyclable plastics, 14 X 9 X 24 inches

My artwork has always been informed by the 20th Century tradition of found object assembly. After three decades of sculpting in fabricated steel, I shifted my studio work to making art from post-consumer recyclable plastics in the spring of 2004. I have found that working with recyclable plastics resonates with my interest and concern about the impact of our western commercial consumer marketing culture on the environment. With an objective of furthering the awareness of this contrasting dynamic, I feel it is important to make artwork that is available, affordable, and intellectually accessible to the public. Although my previous studio work is entrenched in academic intellect, my new work embraces a festive aesthetic with lighthearted imagery that I hope resonates in contrast with our increasingly stressful lives while bringing increased awareness to issues of the environment in our consumer society.
