Mickey's Crowns

We
began our jewelry label, Rust Belt,
with the intention of using only re-purposed materials. Page told her family
about the project, and her grandmother Mickey immediately sent her old gold
crowns to melt down. Mickey had stashed them in her drawer for years.
Mickey's
Crowns reflect the malleability of
how we value materials. Living in an era in which materials were scarce shapes
how Mickey views material worth. It gives us hope that shifting perspectives
can change the current cultural trend of treating materials and their history
as dispensable.
