Paper or Plastic

Necklace comprised of non conforming plastic parts accented with hand made paper.

Connectors and hand made clasps are of brass and nickel.

All of the plastic components used in this piece are "non-conforming" in engineering terms, because they do not perform to precise manufacturing specifications. The components are also non-conforming in the jewelry sense because they don't conform to traditional expectations of precious materials. This raises the issue of defining value, and its malleable nature. Their value dropped to zero when they were deemed "non-conforming". Value is reinstated by realigning the viewer's expectations and relationship with the object as art.
